Abstract: The article explores photography as a methodological tool for anthropological analysis and writing. The author uses his experience in recording the rock scene in the city of Marabá (PA) with specific photography techniques. Although there are technical limits — such as the spatial framing of what is observed — and contextual limits — such as the level of immersion/participation allowed to the researcher — photography captures details, gestures, expressions and environments that text alone cannot describe. By integrating images into ethnographic writing it is possible to achieve a deeper and more sensitive understanding of the social and cultural contexts investigated, enhancing communication between researcher and reader.
