Study on the intervention of the use of collagen in hypertrophic and keloid scars
Keywords:
Intervention; Hypertrophic Scars; Keloids.Abstract
Collagen is the most abundant extracellular matrix protein in mammals, regulating various bodily processes, from the molecular to the macroscopic scale. In many cases of developmental defects, injuries and diseases, it is observed that the collagen is damaged or dysregulated. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the effect of the intervention of collagen action on hypertrophic scars and keloids, in order to elucidate effective therapeutic approaches. This is a bibliographic review, descriptive with a qualitative approach, where a survey of information about collagen and scars will be carried out. The list of scientific articles collected in databases such as Scielo, Science Direct and PubMed with the search engines ‘’collagen’’, ‘’intervention’’; “scar”; "keloids". The study also had as inclusion criteria, the choice of articles and journals published in English and Portuguese, available in the entire database, in the period from 2010 to 2020, and as exclusion criteria, articles that are not available were eliminated. in full, outside the timeline, outside the context, another application, in addition to dissertations or theses. Among the 10 selected articles, the treatments evidenced involving modulation of collagen function, the processes of laser therapy, irradiation (mainly UV), ultrasound, functional tissue release, dermal regeneration matrix, radiotherapy, preassure therapy, silicone gel coating stand out, cryotherapy, in addition to drug treatments such as methotrexate, glucocorticoids and fluorouacyl. Therefore, through the studies read and discussed by the authors in this study, the literary consensus that the available alternatives and their therapeutic approaches are beneficial and allow an effective treatment of keloids, in addition to attenuating the social impacts of patients regarding their aesthetics, becomes evident. and the deficits it provides. Still, it was possible to understand from this bibliographical research which alternatives are better in this treatment, that is, through the modulation of the collagen metabolism, promoting an early interaction in order to prevent the installation of the hypertrophic scar.
