Good safety practices in multidisciplinary care in neonatal intensive care: an integrative review

Abstract

This study aimed to describe good safety practices in multidisciplinary care in neonatal intensive care. This is an integrative review. The guiding question was formulated by the acronym PICO. Articles were selected from searches in the Database on Nursing (BDENF), Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS), Medical Literature Analysis and Retrievel Sistem Online (MEDLINE) and the Scientific Electronic Library Online. (SciELO). Controlled descriptors were used. As selection criteria for articles, studies between the years 2013 to 2022 in Portuguese were included. Abstracts of communication at conferences, letters to the editor, experience reports, articles that did not respond to the guiding question, unavailable texts in full and duplicate studies, for which Endnote® software, bibliography manager for scientific articles, were excluded. published. With regard to patient safety in the neonatal intensive care unit, care provided to the newborn is included in order to promote harmless care, maintain and restore physiological stability, as well as reduce the risk of infection and maternal and child mortality. It can be seen that the findings suggest that the search for good practices in multidisciplinary care in neonatal intensive care can contribute to improving the quality of care and patient safety. However, everyone must be involved in understanding the errors to correct the identified causes and put into practice strategies that help the safety culture.
