This teaching case aims to problematize and discuss the socio-emotional issues of students and the role of the school and teachers in situations of family crisis that reverberate in the classroom. This case is based on a true story, however, all characters have had their names changed and some information, such as the name of the city and school, have been modified to preserve the identity of those involved. In this case, a student was experiencing family dilemmas that involved non-compliance with the change in her life and that of her family, as well as her parents' lack of understanding in relation to her emotional state. All of this directly affected her learning and, above all, put her health at risk. Thus, this case can be applied in initial and/or continuing teacher education, in undergraduate courses, in general, or in postgraduate studies, as a subsidy for discussing topics relevant to the role of the teacher in relation to students' socio-emotional issues at school.
