Leadership and motivation: engagement is need!

Abstract

Based on real experiences that authors lived, this case aims to discuss the role of leadership in motivating employees and has as its dilemma the leader’s decision of either having Brazilian incentive plans different form global incentive plans or converging Brazilian plans to the global standard, accepting a possible shift in earnings. The main characters of the case are the global CEO of an important international financial institution, Cléber, and the local CFO, Lucas. The theoretical approach that is the background to understand the current situation of the company and guide the decision of the dilemma is that of leadership (transactional versus transformational).
