Abstract

“Umbanda without walls” was the consideration of a spirit for the directions that Umbanda would take in the face of the problematic period of the virus and disease, Sars-CoV-2 and covid-19, in 2019. “Without walls”, he refers the physical structures of the sacred house and its spiritual limits. It is intended to expose the strategies developed by the Terreiro de Umbanda do Pai Maneco, located in Curitiba/PR, for the consequent impossibility of in-person religious exercise. Terreiro's strategies aimed to meet the physical and spiritual demands of members and consultants, through technological development and adaptation and the opening of most sacred activities to the media. Perspectives were glimpsed about what was thought and felt about the spiritual and religious practice, considering that the pandemic caused changes in social, spiritual and ritualistic relations, specific to Umbanda, impregnating with other feelings and modulations something, that had, historically, been built and regarded as untouchable.
