Abstract

In this text I discuss the defense of trees in Gilberto Freyre’s first journalistic articles, published in Diário de Pernambuco. I intend to show a new perspective about this apology, highlighting the late dimension of this Freyre’s militancy in the defense of Recife’s trees. In the domain of environmental history I intend to identify the several senses and meanings used by Gilberto Freyre to do his defense of trees in the city of Recife.
