The physical transformations undertaken in Brazilian cities – especially in Rio de Janeiro – from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, promoted a reaction in the form of representation on the city of Natal. But, as the chroniclers translated their own ideas for urban city of Natal? Understand, therefore, forms of literary representation of Natal, is the purpose of this article. It starts from the premise that the ways of representation of these intellectuals about the city is possible to realize the ideal forms that aspired to criticize built space at the same time revealing a real city. To this end, it used a little-studied literary works from “potiguares” chroniclers that reveal Natal which sought to introduce into the capitalist world scenario.
