This text analyses the building of the municipal stadium, named Francisco Rocha Pires, into the process of urban modernization occurred in the town of Jacobina in the middle of the 1950’s decade. By contrasting sources, like: texts of newspapers, administrative documents, municipal laws, photographs, the Code of Conduct, the town council minute book, reports on accountability and memory texts, along this text, we aim at describing and examining the building of the sports field. With this building, it was implanted in the urban area a place for leisure and physical exercises – an aspect, we state, as an instrument of reaching the urban lifestyle that was aspired to this town at that time.
