Abstract

In her firt novel, Nicole Dennis-Benn portrays the daily life of Montego Bay, north coast of Jamaica, through the eyes of four protagonists. The author, Jamaican by birth, moves to the United States at the age of 17 to study medicine. Master in Public Health, she left her role as a researcher at Columbia University to dedicate
herself to writing. In 2016 he published the book Here Comes the Sun, translated in Brazil as Welcome to Paradise, being received with attention and good criticism from the specialized media, nominated for several literary awards, and won the Lambda Literary Award.
