This paper aims to discuss, based on the documentary “The Modern Province”, cinema not only as a teaching resource, but also as a tool for Public History, insofar as, in addition to enhancing the construction of investigative and propositional knowledge about the history and urban life of Natal in the first three decades of the 20th century, it contributes to a critical reflection on the city and society in a broader sense, in educational and community spaces. Pedagogical experiences that used this audiovisual production in the teaching of History were analyzed and, based on these experiences, we seek to propose possible itineraries for the discussion and application of this work in exceptional teaching situations, considering the particularities of the different audiences.
