The constant use of cell phones by students poses several challenges to Brazilian teachers. However, the device has also been used by them to study, based on content available on the internet, on platforms such as YouTube. Videos on this platform are the subject of the research presented. Its objective is to select and analyze videos to identify markers of historicity, historical culture and key concepts related to the subject, and to understand the dynamics of using videos on YouTube as a learning tool. To this end, videos about the Revolt of the Whip and João Cândido were used, analyzing how they address the ethnic-racial issues inherent to the Revolt and the character, which made it evident how the platform can both reproduce historical invisibilities and serve as a space for new narratives and critical reflections.
