Published at the beginning of the 18th century, the document “Katecismo Indico das Linguas Kariri” written by the Capuchin priest Bernardo de Nantes will be useful for various research mechanisms on the relations between missionaries and indigenous people in the colonial period of Portuguese America. In view of this, the following paper will analyze this work in order to understand how the conversion process was built under the kiriri dzubukuá people in the interior of the captaincy of Sergipe, understanding the backlands spatiality as an important characteristic to be considered.
