The scientific revolution inaugurated by Turing's work implied deep sociocultural changes that culminated in the current historical situation, the so-called “information age”. As the term itself suggests, information, as well as the technologies associated with it, is at the center of gravity of these changes. Recently, Luciano Floridi identified in this revolutionary process the context from which emerged a new form of philosophical reflection, the philosophy of information. The main objective of this paper is to present Floridi’s philosophy of information in general lines. More specifically, the focus of this presentation is on its metaphysical or ontological dimension. To this end, the paper is divided into two parts. Initially, it will be characterized the general framework within which the informational turn and the process of re-ontologization of the world associated with it took place, as well as the set of questions by which it is establiched the philosophy of information agenda. With this initial characterization, the concepts of semantic information, the methodology for levels of abstraction and the proposal of an informational structural realism, which constitute the kernel of this new form of philosophical reflection, described by Floridi as proté philosophía, will be introduced in general terms.
