The article offers a reflection on the issue of war from Carl Schmitt and Hannah Arendt. To do so, a clipping is made within the work of each author. From Carl Schmitt it discusses the book The Concept of the Political (2009), which also contains The theory of the partisan. From Hannah Arendt it’s restricted to On violence (2001), The promise of politics (2020), and some essays collected in Between Past and Future (2009). In this regard, Carl Schmitt allows to discuss the role of enmity for the decision on war and how this limit-situation, at same time, constitutes and affects the political dimension. By the other hand, Hannah Arendt allows to outline certain constitutive features of modern wars that escape to the central schmittian concern, especially, the intrinsic danger of enmity produce not the intensification of the political but the elimination of human life under the Earth. Finally, it’s a question to think about the effect of technological advancement in the field of human affairs and how this topical transforms the status of war.
