Abstract

Our aim was to discuss the analysis of the status of weapons and weaponry within the framework of a reflection on technology as presented by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari in A Thousand Plateaus. The authors offer an interpretation of the specificity of these technical elements based on their connection with the process of innovation in nomadic warrior societies. This process is inseparable from a certain mode of operation of artisanal and itinerant metallurgy on the machinic phylum, defined as a matter-movement composed of singularities and manifested in determined expression traits. However, the machinic phylum and the technological lineage of weaponry can also be captured by a state apparatus and begin to function differently from the way they operated when connected to the nomadic space. This capture is at the genesis of an arms industry, the problematic core of the relationship between war, technique, and capital to which our final reflection is directed.
