In geological favorable areas, mining is an alternative occupation for farmers. In this way, we sought to analyze a relationship between a mining and family farming in Rio Grande do Norte and its microregion of Estern Seridó, using geological data and the Agricultural Census 2006. As a methodological procedure for bibliographical and documentary research, and the production of maps from the IBGE database (Census of Agriculture 2006) and the CPRM (mineral resources of Rio Grande do Norte) in order to establish a relationship between the two activities. It was concluded that there is an intrinsic relation between a mining and a family farming in Rio Grande do Norte and mainly not Eastern Seridó, where a quantity of mining, mainly artisanal mining, is very large, revealing a need for investigation of the individuals who carry out these two Activities not only in the Eastern Seridó, but also in other regions where mineral resources are concentrated and from mineral exploration.
