ARCHITECTURAL GEOGRAPHY: VULNERABILITY IN(DIS)ACTION

This paper is an excerpt from a lecture that took place on November 8, 2019 at the 1st Symposium on Disaster Risk Reduction in the Brazilian Northeast Region and II Workshop of the Research Group on Risk Management and Natural Disasters, held at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, at Ceres, Campus of Caico/RN. The lecture was divided into two moments. The first was the explanation related to the knowledge of archicteture and the use and abuse of old buildings in Brazilian northeastern cities as Rio Tinto in the State of Paraiba; Aquiraz, Maranguape, Pacatuba and Icó in Ceará State; Triumph in Pernambuco; Oeiras in Piauí; Carolina in Maranhão and Caicóin Rio Grande do Norte State. In the second moment, we had an experience report about the old buildings in the city of União dos Palmares in the State of Alagoas, where the historical importance, the vulnerabilities, and the use and abuse of tem were discussed. The lecture ended with a proposal to create a cultural corridor for Correia de Oliveira Street, formely Rua da Batata, a road were we have found the largest number of achitectural buildigns in the city. Thus, the speech on cultural heritage, memory and tourism were fundamental for the final discussion of the lecture in question.
