This research is part of the master's thesis and aims to analyze how participatory Social Management practices have adapted to the profile of traditional communities in the Amazon. Specifically, the management of the association of the riverside quilombola community of São Tomé de Tauçú, located in the municipality of Portel, the largest municipality in the Marajó region in the State of Pará, will be analyzed. The study is focused on a practice of social management: participation. For the theoretical discussion, the assumptions of Social Management and its participation practices will be used. Methodologically, the research followed a qualitative approach, using the case study as a method. Data collection was carried out through document analysis, non-participant observation and semi-structured interviews. With the research, it was found that the Association of the traditional quilombola community of São Tomé de Tauçú adopts participatory practices that are adapted to the specific reality of its community and that the dialogical and decision-making processes and engagement of its members are aligned with the theoretical assumptions of participation of Social Management, however, there was a lack of improvement in services aimed at education and the implementation of public policies aimed at the community, which would contribute to local socio-economic growth.
