Weathering in the summit surfaces in Borborema highlands
Abstract
A ocorrência de perfis de intemperismo no contextodas superfícies de cimeira do Planalto da Borborematrazem novas interpretações acerca de sua evoluçãogeomorfológica. A presença de coberturasferruginosas indicam pretéritos de intemperismo econdições paleoclimáticas distintas da semiaridezcontemporânea. Afim de testar novas interpretaçõessobre essas superfícies, foi escolhido como área deamostragem os setores elevados do maciço da Serra daBaixa Verde, região limítrofe entre os Estados dePernambuco e Paraíba. Foram selecionados perfis deintemperismo no topo do maciço e confrontados comas idades estabelecidas para perfis encontrados noPlatô do Teixeira – PB, por Lima (2008). A partir daconfrontação de dados foi possível inferir que ascrostas do Maciço foram formadas nas mesmascondições paleoclimáticas que as formações do Platôdo Teixeira, ou seja, idades que vão do Plioceno ouMioceno.
