This article aims to discuss male and female performativities in the school context, based on the work of a university extension project carried out with eighth and ninth year classes from three municipal schools located in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. During the work of the project, from 2021 to 2023, several workshops were held for students, involving sociocultural and sociohistorical aspects that permeate the experience of these students, and, within these, gender and sexuality performativities and performances. During the activities, several statements were noticed regarding how the students understood and experienced gender and sexuality. From scenes of questions and debates that arose in the workshops, we reflect on the ways in which children and teenagers experience expressions of masculinity and femininity based on socially shared meanings and how these expressions define ways of identifying themselves and relating to the world. We also analyze the work of the extension project in the encounter with these classes, which produced displacements both in the students and in the team itself.
