Purpose: The present research aimed to verify the level of attitude, behavior, knowledge, and financial literacy of higher education students.
Methodology: A questionnaire was administered through an online digital platform to a probabilistic sample of 91 undergraduate students from a Public Higher Education Institution. However, it is important to note that the sample across undergraduate courses was intentionally selected based on convenience. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis, as well as correlation, normality, and group comparison tests (Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis).
Results: The results showed financial literacy rates above 60% for half of the students. It was also possible to observe that the interviewees enrolled in the Administration, Accounting and Production Engineering courses had higher levels of financial literacy than the students from the other undergraduate courses surveyed, which were in the humanities and exact and natural sciences. It can therefore be concluded that the provision of subjects with financial content is a differentiating factor in the performance of the students' financial literacy index.
Contributions of the Study: The results may be useful in guiding educational institutions regarding the importance of offering content focused on financial literacy for students. By promoting this knowledge, institutions would not only benefit the students but also contribute to society at large, as financially literate individuals tend to plan and manage their money more efficiently.
