Abstract

Aim: The aim of the study was to analyze the factor associated with the high perceived stress in university students in Acre during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: It was an online cross-sectional study performed between September 2020 to March 2021, and data on demographic, socioeconomic, academic, health, lifestyle variables as well as perceived stress was collected. The Brazilian version of the 10-item perceived stress scale was used, with the outcome defined as the upper tertile of the perceived stress scale (high stress). Results and discussion: A total of 699 university students participated in the study, most of them between 20 and 29 years old. The high perceived stress was reported for 32,5%, and  the variables associated with it were the negative and regular self-rating of the health state during the pandemic; being young and female, having changed the address and having passed through reduction of family income during the pandemic. Conclusions: The return of face-to-face activities must consider actions to support the mental health of university students and preparedness for future pandemics
