Visões da “família provincial do Império”
política e representação do espaço no Brasil do século XIX
Keywords:
spacial representation, national unity, Empire’s institutional arrangementAbstract
This paper is about relations between politics and space, beyond the scope of spacial representations of the Brazil Empire under 19th century. In analysing geographic books published in Brazil between the 1830 and 1870 decades, we aim understand how the transformations in brazilian institutional arrangement had affected the ways of recognizing imperial territory and their parts. At least, the main idea shows that knowing territories is inseparably doing politics.
