O Abastecimento de água em Fortaleza - CE (1813 –1867)
Keywords:
Water supply, Workers, CityAbstract
From the fountain to the domestic consumption there is a network that was employed directly in the water displacement. However, this network was not only composed of pipes and fittings. Water carriers and domestic workers worked to move the water. In books of memoir and literature studied, it was observed a recurrence of this presence, a heavy flow of these people through the streets of Fortaleza. Nevertheless, little is known about these networks and the place that these workers occupied in everyday life and about the intricacies of this activity - the tensions and disputes that were involved. Thus, from the study of these writings and local laws and newspapers, the discussion done in this paper about some aspects of this network is of great importance to understand the meanings of water in the city.
