This article aims to present the literary and historical image based around Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, El Cid. To do so, we will analyze the social and political context in which the character was inserted. Through this, we will seek to reflect on the heroic image constructed by his contemporaries and even today fomented in the region of the ancient Medieval Castile. Our main objective will be to demonstrate how the poem by Mio Cid, a document of the thirteenth century, written to enhance the character's achievements can be used as a historical document, since we can use his biography to make a historical analysis of the reign of Alfonso VI.
