This article purpose to discuss spatiality in the southern part of Portuguese America, especially the capitania of São Vicente. During the early period of conquest and colonization of this region, spatiality, through sertões and frontiers, is fundamental strategy for the construction of historiography’s occupation of the region. From the historiographical overview and pursuing the reference to these concepts we aim to contribute to the development of reflections on spatiality southern parts of Portuguese America.
