In this article, we intend to introduce an analysis of the imagery-discursive constructions of the São Francisco River, its link to the history of Cariri and the economic environment for the creation of the Cariri electricity company (CELCA). Chosen as time frame the creation of pro-electrification and industrialization of Cariri Committee (1949) and CELCA (1961). During this period, economic, political and cultural issues are intertwined, forming with the importance of this natural resource in the speeches at national and local level. The (re) inventions, then the image of the San Francisco River in Cariri stories handed on a balance of power between the past, present and future.
