This article aims to understand the influence of funerary art on sculpture made by Agostinho Balmes Odísio, Italian sculptor who lived in Juazeiro between the years 1934 and 1940. Odísio left a notebook of memories and some other writings that will be used as sources for this study. The popular devotion of the Juazeiro’s inhabitants and visitors and the relationship between religious feeling and the work produced by Odísio will also be topics of this work.
