This paper intends to analyze the theme of the dehumanization of women in the movies “At midnight I’ll take your soul (1964)” and “This night I’ll possess your corpse” both directed by the filmmaker José Mojica Marins. For that, the article initially focuses on how body and gender are constructed historically, looking to bring to the forefront a debate about gender roles. Then, the films are analyzed, contextualizing them historically and addressing how they incorporate ideas from Brazilian culture and imaginary to address violence against women in the narrative.
