originality and contemporaneity in The Human Condition

Abstract

The article analyzes the originality and contemporaneity of the reflective elaborations in The Human Condition. The contemporaneity of this work does not result from the harmonization of thought and actuality, but from the critical diagnosis that the terrible novelty of totalitarianism has broken with historical continuities, bringing to the surface a radical crisis of Western civilization that requires us to rethink our traditional concepts and meanings without presuppositions. The originality that seeks another beginning of thought before the end of tradition intersects philosophy and politics with the object to elaborate, in philosophical terms, the public and active existence of men as plural singularities, refusing the traditional contempt of philosophers for the common human world and problematizing the liberal depoliticization of current formal democracies that atrophy the political sphere of action and discourse.
