Abstract: The aim of this essay is to show that, despite a possible mismatch between the view of morality of the "common people" in Western society in the twenty-first century, and the Kantian conception of duty, the Kantian idea of Duty is still alive and the respect for the four classical Kantian duties, enunciated in the Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals, once revised and updated, is essential for the proper functioning of contemporary society, for the continuity of human civilization and even to avoid the destruction of the human species and our planet.
