war and peace constitute one of the most intriguing aporias in Kant's thought. Perpetual peace is an idea of reason with objective validity in moral philosophy, therefore, it must guide actions, but it only constitutes a regulatory idea for theoretical philosophy, therefore, it can be thought, but cannot be known. This aporia is shown both in philosophical history, which explains how the antagonism of unsociable sociability uses war to achieve the end of perpetual peace, and in the practical reason itself that makes its veto of offensive war compatible with the right to war.
