Epidemiological history of HIV/AIDS in the municipality of Parnaíba-PI, Brazil, 1980-2018.

Objective: To describe the epidemiological profile of HIV / AIDS in the city of Parnaíba-PI, in the period 1980-2018. Methods: Descriptive, cross-sectional study, carried out based on data reported in the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN), declared in the Mortality Information System (SIM). Results: 354 cases of Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) were registered in the municipality. Regarding the race / color variable, a higher prevalence of records can be observed in the brown population 61.5% (N = 134) followed by the white race 12.4% (N = 27). In relation to education, the incomplete basic level was evidenced 36.2% (N = 79). Another relevant factor concerns the number of pregnant women, about 12% (N = 15) of the women in the sample. Regarding AIDS deaths, between 1996 and 2018 the total number of 28% (N = 96) was recorded in the period. Conclusion: The study allowed discussions on the epidemiological profile of HIV / AIDS in the municipality of Parnaíba-PI, concluded the need for advances in public policies aimed at this public, such as improving the qualification of these
