With technological advances, it has become necessary to reflect on how they can be used to improve quality of life, especially in cities. In Brazil, small towns still lack technical instruments that match their demands and provide the spatial and temporal resolution required for their realities. Therefore, this study proposes a methodological pathway for RPAS-based mapping to support socio-environmental urban planning and management in these localities. Methodologically, bibliographic and documentary research was conducted, along with fieldwork and office-based procedures, aiming to define an appropriate workflow for this application. The results indicate that RPAS use is particularly suitable for small towns: in smaller areas, field time and operational costs tend to be lower, making the application more feasible despite the high added value of the equipment. On the other hand, a lack of technical training among professionals and managers is evident, highlighting the need for continuing education to strengthen municipal autonomy.
