About the Journal

Focus and Scope

ARJ – Art Research Journal: Revista de Pesquisa em Artes is a biannual, bilingual (Portuguese and English), arbitrated (academic peer review, refereeing) and online publication, with the mission to produce undergraduate and graduate art research reference materials for the Portuguese-speaking countries, and at the same time, promote the outcome of research in the arts to the international academic community.

The journal is supported by a consortium of Brazilian Art Research Associations: ABRACEAssociação Brasileira de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação em Artes Cênicas (Performing Arts Research and PostGraduate Studies Brazilian Association), ANPAPAssociação Nacional de Pesquisadores em Artes Plásticas (National Association of Visual Arts Researchers), ANPPOMAssociação Nacional de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação em Música (National Music Research and Post-Graduation Association), and ANDAAssociação Nacional de Pesquisadores em Dança (Dance Researchers Nacional Association), in partnership with UFRNUniversidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte (Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte). 

There is an open call (continuous flow) for original articles resulting from doctoral or post-doctoral investigation in the arts. Products with thematic, methodological or conceptual link with research lines in creative poetics and interpretive practices are particularly welcome.

Peer Review Process

Submissions in all sections are assessed by well qualified reviewers in double-blind review. Reviewers are independent of the authors, not affiliated with the same institution. Their task is to provide constructive, fair, and timely advice to authors and editors.

The ARJ journal accepts submissions of articles in continuous flow (always open) for the permanent dossier Multidisciplinary Perspectives in the Field of Art or for the sections Articles, Reviews, Interviews and others, or in calls for single (specific) dossiers.

Open Access Policy

ARJ is a non-commercial, academic-only published journal. 
ARJ provides free public access to its content, enabling international knowledge exchange and widenening public impact, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public provides greater global democratization of knowledge. 
ARJ does not charge its authors for publication of articles. 
Editors and academic staff members are not paid; that is, the work is carried out in completely voluntary efforts.

Ethics in research and scientific publication

Articles published in ARJ – Art Research Journal: Revista de Pesquisa em Artes must be attentive to the indications established through regulations of forums for editors of peer-reviewed journals, from the research ethics committees of universities and research associations in Brazil and other countries. ARJ values the integrity of its articles; in case of plagiarism, fraudulent information or other ethical breaches, the authors will be held responsible. 
ARJ's conduct complies with CNS Resolution No. 510, of April 7, 2016, of the National Health Council, Brazil, which provides for the standards applicable to research in Human and Social Sciences. ARJ also recommends engaging the recommendations of international ethics committees in academic publications.
