This article intends to analyze the neoliberal reforms in the context of Latin America's space, taking Argentina’s case during Carlos Menem government (1989-1999). The neoliberal adjustment in Argentina includes a series of measures recommended by the “Washington Consensus”, includes trade and financial liberalization, reduction of tariff and customs protection, improvement of private pensions, decline of public investment – specially of social sectors – as well as an unemployment increase. Besides that, Argentina realized one of the broadest and most radical privatization programs of Latin America, transferring to the private capital – national and foreign – the control of important public companies.
