Abstract

Considering the vast network of monuments that was erected throughout the territory of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia during the decades of its existence, symbols of its foundation as a nation through the partisan struggle and the historical heritage of collaboration and shared resistance between the six independent republics and the two autonomous provinces, the present work seeks to map and identify the current state of these constructions in the Republic of Croatia – a state that emerged from the dissolution of Yugoslavia and whose national narratives in vogue since its independence tend to antagonize its past. Through a quantitative survey, we seek to analyze the preservation efforts, the attempts of destruction and the modifications and appropriations around these spaces in the context of affirmation of a national culture.
