This article aims to analyze the role of women during the 1877 drought, investigating their daily lives and the strategies acquired for survival and maintenance of the home during periods of drought. These points will make it possible to understand how the drought impacted the lives of these women, in a social, economic and private context. In a hinterland said to be a place of the other, the female figure configures a scenario of persistence, strength, courage and resistance. Thus, the interest in entering this field comes from the absence of works that narrate the participation of women as active agents in the fight against drought. Therefore, this research seeks to explore the social dimension of the water shortage of 1877, highlighting the presence of the female figure as a pillar of support, highlighting her leading role in times of calamity.
