CLASSES SOCIAIS E ESTRATIFICAÇÃO EM “OLHAIS OS LÍRIOS DO CAMPO”

Abstract

This article analyzes the novel "Olhai os lírios do campo" by Érico Veríssimo from the perspective of Karl Marx 's class theory and Max Weber' s social stratification. It discusses, from the relations of the protagonist, Eugênio Fontes, as concepts like ideology, for Marx, and stratification, for Weber, operate in the world of the novel. Despite the differences of these theories, they make it possible to follow things like the resignation of the parents with the poverty and the discomfort of Eugenio in the interaction with the wheels of the elite.
