The investigation of the diacritical meaning of language leads to understand the perceptive structure as an oppositional arrangement no longer dependent exclusively on the possibilities of the body. This theoretical adjustment of the second phase of Merleau-Ponty's thinking aims to overcome the problems of the first phase. Perception and speech now signify through the arrangement of their terms, not by referring their expressive power to some kind of positivity or "interiority".
