A dinâmica cognitiva do pensamento indexical

Resumo

A questão central da dinâmica cognitiva é explicar como retemos e re-expressamos as crenças que anteriormente expressamos por meio de expressões indexicais. Minha tese é a de que a única maneira de reter uma crença indexical é convertendo-a em uma crença mnemônica, isto é, baseada na memória. Minha visão diverge de outras recentemente avançadas na medida em que negamos a mera possibilidade de re-expressar uma crença por meio de uma expressão indexical. Uma vez que uma crença indexical é expressa, ela só pode ser pensada e expressa novamente através de um demonstrativo de memória. Sua retenção, portanto, pressupõe que seja despida de sua indexicalidade. Motivarei o problema da dinâmica cognitiva a partir dos influentes comentários de Frege em “O Pensamento”, partindo daí a revisar algumas teses fundamentais sobre a crença e como elas parecem conflitar quando pensamos em casos de sujeitos que perdem a noção do tempo ou espaço.
