Abstract

This article proposes different theoretical ideas on the concept of gradation in areas as Rhetoric, Literature, Visual Arts and Music. We point out certain similarities and differences between the aspects presented in this study, taking as starting point ideas from the writer Allan Poe, the composer György Ligeti and other authors that discusses about structures of discourse and visual forms.

Author Biography

Claudio Horacio Vitale, USP – Universidade de São Paulo

Claudio has a teaching degree [“licenciatura”] in Musical Harmony, Counterpoint, and Morphology (2002), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Composition (2005) from the School of Fine Arts (Facultad de Bellas Artes - FBA) of La Plata National University (Universidad Nacional de La Plata - UNLP), Argentina; a Master’s Degree in Music (2008, under a scholarship program offered by CAPES), and a Ph.D. in Music (2013, under scholarship programs offered by CAPES and FAPESP) from the School of Communication and Arts (Escola de Comunicações e Artes - ECA) of São Paulo University (Universidade de São Paulo - USP), Brazil; a Post-Doctoral Degree (2014) from the School of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of Ribeirão Preto (Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras de Ribeirão Preto - FFCLRP) of São Paulo University (USP); a Post-Doctoral Degree (2014-2015, under a scholarship program offered by CAPES in the Science without Borders Program) from the Laboratory of Excellence: Experimental Research Group on the Musical Act (Laboratoire d’Excellence: Groupe de Recherches Expérimentales sur l’Acte Musical - LABEX GREAM) of the University of Strasbourg; a Post-Doctoral Degree (2016-2017) from the School of Communication and Arts (ECA) of São Paulo University (USP). He is a member of LABEX GREAM (Associate Researcher) and of the TRAMA Research Group of ECA-USP (Full Researcher).  His main areas of activity are Musical Composition and Analysis.
