This paper deals with the experience of seeing, the blindness and the blink, based on an excerpt from the first chapter of the book Ulysses, by James Joyce, using Jacques Derrida’s reflections as philosophical ground, specially the ones presented in Memoirs of the Blind: The Self-portrait and other Ruins, relating it to the concept of presentness as developed by Robert Morris and to cinema, in specific to the film La Jetée, by French director Chris Marker.
