Abstract

This paper presents a study of artist and art teacher education policies in Brazil to understand the context in which the idea of artist as researcher appears and how it connects with the pedagogical turn in contemporary art.  Both movements address questionings about the sense of an academic education modeled on scientific parameters and point towards arts based research (ABR) methodologies. Those changes draw possibilities for art practice and art education that needs to be observed for the potentialities and challenges in the education of those professionals on a Latin American perspective. Based on these observations we propose some concrete actions to apply on higher education.
