Abstract

The Warburgian method allows us to understand cultural configurations and art pieces, by analyzing the historical forces that are in them synthesized. This paper attempts to illustrate, by examining some visual examples, the core of the Warburgian method, consisting of piercing works and documents to reveal the heterodox and hardly amalgamable cultural strata that coexist in them. In dialogue with Walter Benjamin’s ideas on history, the paper presents, as a limited set of thesis, some thoughts inspired by the fracture of a teacup decorated with the Warburg Institute logo.
