Abstract

The article analyzes the texts of the art historian Aby Warburg (1866-1929) related to astrological themes inspired by books, works and topics from the Renaissance. These are investigations carried out between 1908 and 1929. The essay seeks to clarify Warburg´s ideas on a crucial point in his work: the need to understand astrology as a psychic resource, with deep historical and cultural roots, designed by man in search of guidance versus the cosmos.

Author Biography

Cássio da Silva Fernandes, Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)

Cássio Fernandes is Professor at the Department of Art History at the Universidade Federal de São Paulo, where he works in the area of ​​History and Historiography of Art and Culture in the Renaissance. He was a Guest Professor at the Masters in Art History at the Kunsthistorisches Institut (Institute of Art History) of the University of Zurich (Switzerland), in 2012. He is the author of the organization, translation into Portuguese, presentation and notes of the books of Jacob Burckhardt, O retrato na pintura italiana do Renascimento (2012), and by Aby Warburg, A presença do antigo. Escritos inéditos, vol. 1 (2018).
