“About the War” (or) What is to Make a "Collage-Assembly" in Our Present

Abstract

Many contemporary artists quote, study and reference on Aby Warburg and his innovative interpretation of Art History. In his Atlas Mnemosyne, the archive and montage was evidenced as a powerful tool for historical and anthropological knowledge. That technique has crossed the modern limits, inserting itself in our contemporaneity. How can collage-montage continue to be a producer of knowledge? What does creating through montage mean in times of the reign of the Internet? How can we re-signify the work of a European theorist from the beginning of the 20^th Century in the periphery of the Western world one century later? This paper seeks to share some emerging conclusions from my research project “On War”, by analyzing art pieces of some contemporary artists using the Warburg method.
