Abstract

Open Science is an umbrella expression that means a new way of doing science based on principles such as transparency, reproducibility, collaboration and sharing. Such principles require a cultural change that affects a broad set of stakeholders, but most directly, researchers. This change requires the development of skills that can be particularly fruitful in the case of young researchers on doctoral courses. This work is an excerpt carried out within the data collected by a PhD research whose objective is to identify how training for the development of skills related to Open Science is being carried out in doctoral programs in Information Science in Brazil and Portugal. The data presented here, collected from students of selected doctoral programs, reveal the impact of Open Science training on the familiarity that these doctoral candidates have about Open Science. It was found that more than 85% of respondents participated in some type of specific training, in curricular or extracurricular context, on topics that are under the Open Science umbrella and it was found that the levels of familiarity with some Open Science terms and expressions is significantly higher among those who had some type of Open Science training.
