This article, through the case study of Soares de Oliveira family, intends to examine the inclusion of mixed race in the colonial administration of the hinterlands of the Captaincy of Rio Grande, in the course of the eighteenth century. In this sense, we understand that the presence of “mestizos” in the intricacies of the colonial bureaucracy of the space in question and requesting land the Crown, is an indication that, despite the social hierarchies of the colonial scenario, this population is inserted in the economic and social dynamics time and participated in the construction of the space in which he lived through official mechanisms that have been imported into overseas in an attempt to westernized it, as the institute of land grants.
